THE PROCESS

THE PROBLEM

Unfortunately, creating a professional resume is a difficult and time-consuming process, even for designers. Often, attention is paid to the visual composition of a resume, but keywords and content are ignored. This can be understood, because to create a professional resume you need to know the market. To be exact, what and whom employers and recruiters
are looking for.

There are enough platforms for creating professional resumes, but mostly the interface of those platforms is difficult for users to understand, resume templates are not professional and creative enough. Also, it is often difficult for users to define an accurate description of their position.

My research had shown that there is no free CV creation platform on the market that not only helps you to quickly create professional resume,
but also allows you to track the further path of your submitted resume.
For example, who and when viewed it?

HYPOTHESIS

Freemium, intuitive interface, templates, based on the recommendations
of professional recruiters. All these advantages will help users to create
a competent resume and to find decent job.

MY ROLE IN PROJECT

My responsibility was developing of new professional CV creator.
I researched competing products on the market to understand their
advantages and disadvantages. I surveyed potential users and ranked
reviews by category.
I created an empathy map to understand who the target audience
of the product is. Also, I created the site architecture, scetched
the main screens and tested them on five users. After paper prototypes,
I moved on to making a high-quality wireframes in XD, then tested it,
found some bugs and fixed it.

INTERVIEWS

Firstly, I needed to understand how useful this product can be, who will
use it, and can it solve someone's pain? Why would potential users use

my product instead of competitors'?

After conducting several interviews with users, I realized that most of them don't know about the existence of such resume builders and trying to solve this issue on their own. The rest turn to expensive specialists.

For those who haven’t heard of the resume creator, I have shown several sites to understand what potential users think about it.

The majority showed the interest in the CV creator.

In the course of my research, I discovered several shortcomings of existing products on the market, which I revealed below.

Interviews with user Oleg Yusupov

PERSONAS

By ranking users reviews by category, I created an empathy map
to understand who the target audience of the product is.

As a result, I got three personas that most characterize the target audience of my product. Having chosen two main personas, I decided to focus on her when creating the builder CV.

PROJECT GOALS

01/

User registration will occur after creating a CV, but throughout the entire process, the data entered by the user will be saved automatically

03/

Show real examples of CV created by specialists in different fields

02/

Add options such as: uploading an existing CV in different formats, registering using social networks, choosing work experience and specialty, tips and advice from specialists throughout the process

04/

Add the optimal number of professional CV based on expert advice

"To understand the user, you need to become one".

Based on surveys of potential users, reviews in the Play Market and Apple Store, as well as personal experience, I have written out the most common problems of existing platforms.
In further work, this information helped me create a product that takes into account the advantages and disadvantages of competitors.

Here is a list of the most common disadvantages:

1. Almost all sites initially required registration, which users did not like, since they were not ready to fill in something without the opportunity

to get acquainted with the product

2. Some sites did not consider work experience

3. Many sites lacked expert advice and real-life examples of successful

job seekers

4. Resume templates are visually outdated

5. There was no function to upload an existing resume, register

on social networks, for example Linkendin

6. Lack of choice of a template for the specialty

I took into account from the list and decided on the main goals.

Defining clear goals:

MINDMAP

I built the project’s mindmap to validate the new structure.

VISUAL SITEMAP

After several sketches, I chose the simplest, but most productive in my opinion. I created a content priority guide to identify components and their level of importance.

SKETCHING

Based on the User Journey Map, I sketched the main screens for the MVP.

USABILITY TESTING

I created a low-quality prototype in XD and let potential users test it out. I set tasks for them and monitored their behavior, noted the moments when it was difficult for the user to complete a certain task, and corrected them. What seemed obvious and simple to me was often difficult and incomprehensible to the user.

THE FINAL UX-DESIGN

I created a high-quality prototype and conducted a usability test with 8 participants and received positive feedback on concept functionality and interactions.

TO CREATE A PROFESSIONAL CV IS SIMPLE, FAST AND FREE NOW

In the future, I plan independently to develop the UI-design of this concept and involve programmers in this project.
